Exercise: Shape your clarified list

This is still prep work. You’re filling in the worksheet you started in 2.2, the one you’ll load into a tool in the next part.

Go through your clarified list and give each task its shape:

  1. Project: assign every task to a project.
  2. Impact: rate each task against the others in its own project, not against your whole life.
  3. Timing: if a task can’t start yet, note why, either the task it’s waiting on, or the date before which it’s impossible.
  4. Due date: add one only if something real happens when the date passes. If the only reason is “I want it done by then,” that’s priority, not a deadline.
  5. Tag (optional): tag what a task needs, like computer, phone, or errands.
  6. Project list: keep your projects on a separate short list, each with a ranking relative to the other projects in the domain. You should still rank the projects relative to each other even if you choose to not group by domain, it is just that now you are comparing each project to every other project on your list.

That’s it, your work is now fully described. In the next part, you’ll pick a tool and put this shaped list to work.
